[Well.... that sucked. All of it. Things were said and done and there's no taking them back. And then Makoto hasn't been around, and Shinjiro can't and won't blame him for it. But at least he can belatedly reach out.]
so whenever you get this
i think you were trying to tell me some pretty important shit the other day. about the world ending or whatever. anyway hit me back up when you get a chance.
[ He knew this would come eventually, and he'd debated how to handle it. Ultimately, he isn't angry with him. He can't be, and he blew it as far as breaking the news to him gently. The most he can hope for is that Akihiko still doesn't know. ]
hey. what do you wanna know? ask whatever u want
[ What he really wants to do is apologize and immediately address what had happened between them, but he knows that isn't going to happen, so they may as well have this talk first. ]
[Sorry, Makoto, Shinji doesn't deal with things in a healthy way like that. As far as he's concerned, they had their fight, they've both realized it was stupid full moon stuff, they can move on without the apologies or discussion of the event. He doesn't hold a grudge over it, even if he hasn't changed his opinion of Akihiko's not knowing... and that likely neither has Makoto.
Maybe that's another reason for the avoidance.
Not that this topic is much better. There's a lot of tackle with not a lot of information.]
ok so how's killing all them Shadows make the world end? also you guys managed to keep that from happening, right? you doing ok other than being dead and back?
[He's just gotta... pick a place to start. they can go from there. Really, he's not sure how much of it he wants or deserves to know himself.]
you knew that the kirijo group were responsible for tartarus and the shadows appearing right? and yukari's dad was a scientist who died in the accident that made them appear. they were both pretty open about that stuff by the time u joined us.
[ What wasn't open, at least not during the time prior to Shinjiro's death, was Makoto's involvement in all this. As his thumbs hesitate over his watch, he sighs. He really prefers it when other people explain this part for him. ]
that accident is the one that killed my parents. aigis was chasing a shadow on the loose and we got caught in the crossfire. the shadow ended up hiding itself in me, somehow.
all the other arcana shadows, they were actually just pieces of bigger one called nyx. and the one that was trapped in me was the last arcana shadow, death, aka the appraiser. the appraiser's job was to summon nyx, and then nyx would destroy everything.
basically, ikutsuki used us to help him gather the pieces of nyx together, and i was brought to gekkoukan and SEES so i could bring the appraiser back to do its job.
yeah with the time machine experiment. the old kirijo was crazy as hell from everything i heard.
[But the rest, as Makoto expected, is news to him. And it's... a little hard to really wrap his head around. So Makoto had a Shadow inside him the whole time? He knew the guy was different, sure, but he wouldn't have expected that.
...Also things he wouldn't have expected: that the dopey chairman who was barely-nominally in "charge" over overseeing SEES was, for some reason or another, bent on destroying the world. But then again, he'd been a researcher before the explosion, right? Maybe crazy just came along with it all.]
well that sucks
[So much for their plan. Granted, he liked to pretend he wasn't invested in SEES's mission, instead only there for his own personal reasons... but it's hard to keep that lie up, now that he's already gone and died.]
so what, you had to die to keep that from happening? man it sounds like shit really went down after i bit it.
and you didnt say if you're doing ok about it or not.
oh, it wasnt a time machine experiment. they were experimenting with shadows, on purpose.
[ just in case the deception wasn't bad enough already. ]
a lot more happened than just what i've said. everything changed after you died. i dunno how much you wanna know about everything else or what.
[ Chidori and Junpei, him and Ryoji, Strega and Nyx's cult, Ryoji's offer... if Shinjiro wanted to know more, there is plenty more he could talk about. As much as Makoto might resemble the leader he remembers, it's more accurate to say that the person he rarely shows to others, the Makoto on the inside, is a different person now, which makes it hard to answer his last question in any constructive way.]
i thought they were using the shadows to like. make it work or something? i knew they were doing shit on shadows, though, i got a real basic run down when me and aki got on board. but hey who knows how much was true.
[Really, the whole thing was weird and sketchy, but honestly... he was a middle schooler who just fucking woke up to a bunch of coffins and monsters one night and the splitting pain of a beast in his skull that wanted to break free. he'd probably have taken any explanation, especially if it came with the idea that he and his best friend could be some sort of heroes.
god he'd been naive.]
i mean whatever you wanna tell me or think's important i guess. not like it'll change anything and i can't really do anything about it all. maybe it was the full moon talking but you seemed pretty intent on the idea that people should know what happens.
[ Because Shinji seems a lot more interested in hearing about it now, even though he's sticking to the fact that he won't be able to do anything about it. Makoto hasn't forgot about his own request for Shinjiro to tell Akihiko the truth.
Knowing he might be coming off as aggressive: ]
when I was being a jerk, THAT was the full moon talking. i'm sorry.
[ Dorchacht, already? Makoto is about to ask, but then he remembers Eren is a dragon. He probably just flew there instead of waiting. ]
yeah, im staying here. i want to save up some money, get more prepared for the next full moon. i didnt have fun during that dream visit.
[ That's putting it mildly, but he hopes it's enough of an explanation that Eren doesn't think he's completely heartless towards the monsters enslaved there. ]
[ Makoto knows that Eren must know other people he could ask to do this for him, people he must know better than him. It's hard not to wonder if he's using it as an excuse to contact him - not that he minds. ]
be careful. i wanna see you again when youre back. a lot's been going on with me since last time.
b4 we talk, i wanna say sorry for how i was the other night. im sure you could tell but i was a mess. im feeling way better now that the full moon is over. they're not joking around about that full moon stuff, huh.
[ if you could see the look of relief on his face right now. ]
for me & my friends, our personas only worked during the dark hour. it was an extra hour of time that took place at 12 am every night. our personas couldnt do anything out in the normal world, once we got rid of the dark hour, our personas went away too.
[ Interesting—he wonders if it has anything to do with Souji's Midnight Channel, considering the time. ]
I had multiple Personas. I haven't felt them since coming here. Ours only worked in a place called the Metaverse. We could go there any time of day, though.
[ the firework show for samuin would begin tonight, with a deep spread of orange-pink across the evening sky to mark dusk’s arrival. hues of purple darken what’s left of blue, and giving everyone a lovely sunset to watch before the grand spectacular. eren can’t say he’s never heard of fireworks at this point, buried deep in the memories of his father, or when liberio prepared for its festival, and perhaps a few dumb years ago he would’ve found these excruciatingly alarming.
at least he’s used to terribly loud noises, being the source of one for so long. he’d told makoto earlier that he’d come pick him up, take him to a high point with a much better view than the roofs of most buildings. what eren hadn’t told him, perhaps, was that an elephant sized wyvern would be the one to circle over the roof of the building they once spent on evening together on, where he told him to wait, the color of his scales a brilliant reflection of the warm canvas splattered across the sky— black, purple, orange and red.
the dragon cries out, and flares his wings to land and make way for some extra running afterwards, just enough to come to a stop. the dragon, either way, was similar to eren’s more humanoid frame, from the pattern of scales to the tail, horns, and bright blue eyes. he’s just bigger, a lot less human— and on his neck, tied around it rather messily, was his silver pendant and a leather pack containing. well, things. ]
